Daniel Layber joined the newly created Village of Cottage Grove Police Department as the first Chief of Police in May of 2015. Prior to that he was the Police Chief at the City of Milton Police Department from May of 2011 until joining Cottage Grove. Chief Layber has over 33 years of law enforcement experience. Chief Layber began his law enforcement career in 1983 with the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation as a Special Agent and was promoted to Special Agent in Charge in 1992. He was the supervisor of the DCI Milwaukee field office for 18 years focusing on crimes of statewide importance during his tenure with the state. Prior to working for the DCI he was a Military Policeman and Military Police Investigator with the US Army in California and Germany. Chief Layber has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Senario College and is an FBI National Academy Graduate. He is a member of the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
